| Custom
and Added Value Power Supplies |

|
| As the leaders in
designing, manufacturing, and testing custom medical power
solutions, our co-workers have recognised that not all customers'
applications can be met by a standard power supply. In some cases
a simple modification to a standard product, such as a voltage
change, conformal coating, or additional mechanical strength may
suffice. In others, a complete custom solution may be required.
For these, we can offer a bespoke solution through our
Europe-based design and manufacturing facility. |

Added Value Power
|
|
With
extensive experience of the medical market requirements, our
co-worker's added value engineering team can work in partnership
with customers, reducing both development costs and time to market.
In-house facilities include CAD, 3-D modelling, thermal modelling,
application simulation and EMC testing.
The basic philosophy of Added Value is to produce a bespoke power
supply, to a customer's requirement, but basing the design around
a standard part. For example using a AC-DC power supply that is
already approved and then constructing metalwork to house this,
and any other items such as signal, monitoring, control etc that
is needed. This approach reduces the total NRE cost and as a
proven part is being used, the risk of failure to meet
specification or miss a key delivery date is dramatically reduced. |

Example |
|
|
|
 |
This is an 80-watt AC-DC; battery backed medical power supply that
powers a ventilator. It utilises a standard AC-DC medical power supply,
which is already approved to EN60601-1 and UL2601-1, therefore
ensuring that the key safety aspects will be met. It has three outputs,
which are generated by a bespoke circuit, which can either run
directly from the AC-DC front end or in the event of mains failure
from the battery.
The unit will also charge the battery during normal mains operation. |

Custom Power
|
|
Our
Europe-based co-workers can undertake custom design and
manufacturing of medical power products. The factory specialises
in full custom power designs to medical safety standards and has
produced numerous supplies from 0.5 - 0.5KW in power and with
outputs ranging from 1V through to 5KV.
Maximum efficiency in both design and production is ensured
through the use of a 'backbone' computer system that is accessible
to key personnel at all times, distributing technical data,
displaying production schedules and providing monitoring and
analytical functions. Comprehensive resources include everything
from CAD and prototyping, to EMC testing, to final assembly plus
production and soak test facilities. |

Custom Power Example |
|

 |
This is a 600W AC-DC and a 350W DC-DC custom power supply that powers
an Electrical Surgical Unit.
The 600W power supply has three outputs, one of which is 400Vdc. The
input to this unit is universal and complies with EN61000-3-2. The
physical size is tailored around the end customers equipment and
incorporates a twin fused, switchable IEC inlet filter. The whole is
designed to meet EN60601-1 and UL2601-1.
The 350W DC-DC card take the 400V input and allows it to be varied
between 0 - 400Vdc via a 0.5V signal which is generated by a
microprocessor. |
